The head of the International Area of CEFAS, Eduardo Puig de la Bellacasa, attended the National Conservatism Conference held in London from May 15 to 17. The meeting, which was celebrating its seventh edition, brought together conservative leaders from different countries and addressed issues such as the cultural revolution that is taking place in the West or the situation of conservative thought.
British author and commentator Douglas Murray spoke at the congress and pointed out that although conservatives are “divided over what they are conserving”, there are three traits that they all defend: love “of country, of family, of the people around you, love of the culture that has produced you, of the tradition and heritage into which you were born”; the importance of gratitude “not just for the things you have been given, but also some kind of peace with the things you have not been given, a recognition that you cannot have everything in this life”; and the aspirational attitude.
During the meeting, the speakers defended the nation-state as the existing space in the face of the globalizing institutions that want to suppress morality and traditional religion. In this sense, the president of The Heritage Foundation, Kevin Roberts, affirmed that the “institution of the nation is the source and reservoir of the power that the globalists need to achieve their objectives, and one of the most resistant to elite capture”.
In his speech he also called for the need to have a “reinvented government agenda” to save “democracy, the rule of law, freedom of speech, religious devotion, marriage and family, ordered liberty, property rights and the true free market.”
During the meeting, the social consequences of the triumph of the wok movement were also highlighted. Associate Professor of Philosophy of Religion at Cambridge University, James Orr, said that “in the wake of the accelerating collapse of Christianity today, we are witnessing across the West the rise of a new public faith, one that dominates every news cycle, one that is colonizing the public square, eliminating all traces of conventional religious commitment.” For his part, the senior editor of The European Conservative magazine, Sebastian Morello, said that in the West we are not only facing a cultural war, but also a “spiritual” one.
