The CEU-CEFAS Institute of American Studies was invited to attend the 3rd Annual U.S.-Mexico Policy Summit, held at the iconic Willard InterContinental Hotel, next to the White House. During the event, which took place on Tuesday, September 24, representatives from the CEU-CEFAS Institute of American Studies had the opportunity to learn about and analyze the current political and social situation in Mexico, thanks to their meeting with Senator Lilly Téllez of the National Action Party (PAN). In her remarks, the senator denounced the links between certain Mexican political leaders and drug trafficking, and called on the United States to help defend the separation of powers and uphold the rule of law in Mexico.
The seminar, organized by the America First Policy Institute, The Texas Public Policy Foundation, The Heritage Foundation, and Patria Unida por un México Valiente, also featured the participation and remarks of U.S. Ambassador to Mexico Ron Johnson, his Mexican counterpart in Washington D.C., Ambassador Esteban Moctezuma, as well as a broad representation of civil society, business leaders, and policy experts from both the United States and Mexico.

In addition, Eduardo Puig de la Bellacasa, Secretary General of the CEU-CEFAS Institute of American Studies, and Yilian Ayala, Head of International Outreach, held meetings in Washington D.C. with several of the most influential U.S. think tanks and educational institutions to strengthen CEU-CEFAS’s partnerships in the U.S. capital.
During their visit to The Heritage Foundation, they were received by Dr. Victoria Coates, Vice President of the Kathryn and Shelby Cullom Davis Institute for National Security and Foreign Policy, with whom they discussed the shared challenges facing Spain and the United States, as well as the role of both countries in Latin America. Both institutions reaffirmed their collaboration and joint commitment to the training of young leaders.
