On February 25, the students of the Expert Degree in Leadership and Civic Commitment enjoyed the lecture by the president of the American Principles Project, Sean Fieler, during the luncheon-colloquium. The guest speaker talked about the current situation of the family in the United States and how to lobby in the political arena to defend it.
American Principles Project is one of the most relevant American organizations directly involved in electoral campaigns and activities in defense of the family, which they consider to be the most important social institution in the United States. During his speech, Fieler stated that “the majority of Americans today are not married” and with respect to the future he said that “a third of Americans born in 1990 will never marry”. A reality that the American Principles Project wants to counteract as they work to make the family the most influential and best represented interest group.
The president of the organization addressed the relationship between marriage and the Church and affirmed that “both institutions were created by God and should work together for the family“. In this sense, he criticized the lack of economic involvement of U.S. parishes to encourage marriages: “82% of parishes spend 0 dollars to encourage marriages”, he concluded.
