On June 10th, 11th and 12th, the Secretary General of the CEU Institute of American Studies, Eduardo Puig de la Bellacasa, traveled to Peru to participate in the Training Seminar for Regional Leaders, invited by the Peruvian political party Avanza País. During the conference, politicians and members of Ibero-American Think Tanks discussed issues related to public policy, communication, political development in Ibero-America and regional and local governments.

The Secretary General of the CEU Institute of American Studies gave the inaugural lecture “The new challenge of Ibero-American politics“, in which he analyzed the causes of the erosion of democracy and the separation of powers promoted by the left in many Ibero-American countries. Puig de la Bellacasa explained that the progressive parties have advanced their objectives through constitutional revisionism, assembly government and supposed policies in favor of social justice. In this sense, he emphasized that in the strategy of the revolutionary left it has been fundamental to “establish frameworks and ideological spaces such as the Forum of São Paulo or the Puebla Group” and encouraged all those who share the opposition against the precepts of the left to unite to defend freedom.
During the conference, Puig de la Bellacasa also participated in the panel “How are we doing in political training?” together with the political analyst and former mayor of Lima, Ángel Delgado, and the Andean parliamentarian, Juan Carlos Ramírez, in which they were able to discuss and reflect on the situation and challenges in the training of citizens in leadership and political commitment.

The Secretary General of the CEU Institute of American Studies also took part in the forum “Peru to 2050” held in Congress and organized by Congresswoman Adriana Tudela. Congressmen from different Peruvian political parties participated in the forum and analyzed the social and economic impact of the 2030 Agenda in Ibero-America.
Finally, Puig de la Bellacasa met during his visit with the University of San Martin de Porres and the Peruvian University of Applied Sciences to discuss the various international partnerships they have with CEU-CEFAS.
